Phnom Penh, July 3, 2024 – Cambodia Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture (CPSA) a country chapter of Grow Asia – held a validation workshop on What Work, What’s Needed for Gender and Climate Responsiveness on Vegetable Value Chain in Cambodia. This workshop, part of the ASEAN Green Recovery through Equity and Empowerment (AGREE) project and funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), aimed to enhance understanding and implementation of gender and climate-responsive practices within the vegetable value chain.

The workshop took place at the Himawari Hotel, bringing together 35 key stakeholders from the public sector, private enterprises, civil society organizations, farmers’ groups, and policy research institutions. The main objective of the workshop was to disseminate initial research findings and gather feedback from stakeholders to identify solutions and best practices for addressing gender issues and enhancing climate resilience in Cambodia’s vegetable value chain.

Participants engaged in group discussions to exchange views on the current state of gender responsiveness and climate change resilience. These discussions highlighted challenges, proposed solutions, and provided recommendations for policy responses. The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders to develop actionable strategies aimed at improving conditions for smallholder farmers, particularly women, in both institutional and business leadership roles.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of a research report on the processes and requirements for support mechanisms to implement gender policies and climate change resilience in the vegetable value chain. The report aims to inform policy frameworks and improve vegetable production to better respond to climate change, increase productivity, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs).
